The Times Are A Changin’

Hey Everyone!

Well this is just a bit of a housekeeping post. I don’t like housekeeping.

As you can probably tell by the title, things are changing. I’m not sure if it’s for the best but I am open to suggestions so please comment below if you have any ideas.

When I started WDW I had no idea that it would get any traction. Boy was I wrong! I didn’t have any plans at all and just focused on delivering a rad email to your inbox every week. Hopefully I am fulfilling this…

So late last week I was bumped into the next price bracket with Campaign Monitor. I know it’s no big deal, but being a freelance web developer I am always trying to save a penny. I also tend to spend around 2-3 hours preparing the newsletter which is 2-3 hours not doing client work. Bad me!

So the big change you will probably be seeing next week (unless someone suggests an alternative approach) is an advertisement floating in the weekly email. I have discussed the prospect with fellow web designers and this was really the only option that I could come up with to try and cover my costs.

What the ad will look like:

The advertisement will always be as relevant as possible.

I hope you can understand. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please comment.

On a slightly more up beat note, I have been working hard on some new ideas. So in the not too distant future, you might be seeing more than just newsletter content on the site.

Have a good one!

  1. As Paul said, you’re doing a cracking job. I always look forward to getting the latest email. I don’t see the ad being an issue. Beats the option of stopping the newsletter!

    Keep up the good work.

  2. As for feature requests, It would be nice if a person could “search” across all the WDW articles till date.

For eg: “Search: every designer should own.” should return the article you had posted last week on Font’s that each designer should own.

Also, keep up the awesome work. I’m a fan! 😀

    • @Mohammed I just added a custom Google search. Hopefully over the weekend I can fine tune the results page to return more relevant results. Thanks for the feedback!

  3. I signed up late last week! Oops, sorry everyone!

Personally though, so long as the advert is clearly marked, and not passed off as another article / link, I wouldn’t mind at all. If it’s something relevant and well crafted, much better again.
